Workout for a Healthier You (Without Breaking Your Back)

Updated: Feb 5

When it comes to outdoor workouts, the first step is quite simple - you have to step out of your front door. In my personal fitness journey, I once had the privilege of working with a personal trainer for two years. Let me tell you, I can clearly distinguish then from now. What made the difference for me? Well, it wasn't just the intense workouts that left me breathless, but the engaging conversations we had during each session. My trainer had a knack for pushing me to my limits while cracking jokes like, "I don't get it; why are my clients always the ones panting?" Believe me, I was, given the demanding routines she had in store.

I have recently joined the Conqueror Virtual Challenges - where you can take part in virtual fitness challenges with real life running, walking or cycling (or any distance based exercise). Each challenge can be completed in the time-frame that suits you, either individually or in teams. You can connect your favorite fitness apps or manually log your running, walking, cycling etc, distances on the award-winning “The Conqueror” mobile app or through the website. You can track all your miles (or kilometres) directly into the mobile app (iOS and Android). You can enter an activity into the app either by manually entering its distance or by syncing your activities from your favorite fitness tracker or smartwatch.

You can earn stunning event medals (I mean really stunning, no joke!) and even sign up for some apparel, if you wish. Each challenge has a range of apparel in 2 designs, in XS-4XL sizes and over 10 colors!

You can choose from dozens of different virtual challenges with different goals to keep yourself focused and motivated. It worked for me!

But before you dive headfirst into any regular exercise routine, there's a crucial hurdle you must overcome - your mental barriers. I've faced my fair share, including:

  • "A Sound Mind in a Sound Body": As the ancient quote goes, it all starts with a healthy mind. I firmly believe that achieving mental well-being is the key to establishing a consistent workout regimen.

  • Post-Workout Willpower: It's tough to muster the motivation for exercise after a long day at the office.

  • The Loneliness of the Treadmill: Let's face it, running solo on a treadmill can be quite the bore.

  • The Calorie Counting Conundrum: While I tried using calorie counters, the tedious task of logging every meal eventually wore me down.

  • Console Training Programs: These can be brutal, and if you don't step away from the living room occasionally, they won't let you off the hook. Have you ever noticed there's hardly a breather between exercises?

  • Fitness Apps: Discover which app offers effective workout routines, personalized training plans, comprehensive tracking features, and user-friendly interfaces. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned fitness enthusiast, there is an app for you!

Engaging in physical activity, whether it's as simple as a daily 30-minute walk or a more rigorous sport, can significantly improve your overall health. However, the first step is making the conscious decision to prioritize your well-being. Once you've made up your mind, you can then select a physical activity that aligns with your individual preferences, personality, and daily routine.
